Kathleen Flannigan, whose artwork "Sunrise Over Beet Field" graces our cover this issue, was born in Los Angeles in 1940. As a child with a disability, she began doing artwork at the age of five, drawing animals to soothe herself. At the age of 58, she experienced a crisis in her artwork, and began her studies in gender and disability studies. She's now a full-time student at UC Berkeley. Her mentor is Georgina Kleege. For Kathleen's next project, she will travel in June to Philadelphia to interview eight visually impaired artists. When she returns to California, she will produce a show featuring their art, along with her own art based on theirs.

L. J. Geoffrion lives near the southern shore of Lake Superior, with a cornucopia of kids, cats, dogs and the occasional partner. Her stories have also appeared in the webzines Expanded Horizons and Aphelion. In between punching a time clock and bouncing her grandson on her knee, she is currently working toward psych and nursing degrees at Northern Michigan University, where she listens to chemistry lecture with half an ear and writes. Hence the current chemistry grade.

Jo L. Gerrard says, "I hate writing bios. Despite poetry being normally a concise
linguistic art form, it always seems so difficult to condense myself
down to a couple of sentences. Right now, I'm not owned by anyone or
anything other than my computer, I miss having rats, and I'm really,
really slow about responding to email (but I do get to it
eventually!)." Learn more about Ms. Gerrard at sistercoyote.com.
